Desire, three times
One word, three verses, and no others in the Hebrew Bible. The two in Genesis share a second word and a shape — a desire toward someone, and a ruling — and the Song of Songs keeps the desire and drops the rule. Who desires whom changes every time.
Lexical: A word the passages share, with its count in the annotated corpus.
Desire, three times. Lexical — the link is the words themselves, checked token by token against the annotated Hebrew corpus, with a count wherever rarity is the finding.
- תְּשׁוּקָה teshuqah, “desire” — 3 verses in the annotated Hebrew corpus: Genesis 3:16, Genesis 4:7, Song of Songs 7:11
The words, as the corpus holds them (each checked present, or absent, in the verses cited beside it):
- תְּשׁוּקָה teshuqah, “desire”
- מָשַׁל mashal, “rule”

- What the desire of Genesis 3:16 is — longing, or a bid to master — is argued, and turns partly on reading it through 4:7. The entry shows the shape the two verses share and does not decide the question.
